the day Old Faithful died

On days like this - windy, chilly days - there is little I enjoy more than a steamy cup of my dear friend Mr. Decaf. I brew methodically and I brew strong. I brew using my other faithful friend, Mr. Gevalia Thermal Carafe coffee pot.

Mr. Gevalia came to me in October of 2001, I believe, the year of white dorm living. The year Autumn and I decided to take advantage of one of the "too good to be true" offers so generously set forth by Gevalia. I mean, have you priced thermal carafe coffee pots?

After we figured out that paper filters caused coffee overflow in that particular model, and purchased a reusable cone filter, our evenings and mornings were filled with the delicious aroma of Mocca Java and good conversation. The best part of Mr. Gevalia was his ability to keep warm, but not burn, any leftover coffee. Many days, I brewed at 7 and could still have hot coffee at noon.

Today, I loaded up Old Faithful with 3 scoops and a pint, and clicked the familiar button. Ten minutes later, I was still waiting, despondent, cold, and shivering. Old Faithful is no more. My cup is empty.

I feel your pain!! Nothing is worse than having a favorite appliance break down. :(

I'm sorry Jenny! Can you get another one? I'm sure that you have so many good memories come flooding back when you look at that pot. I remember you and Autumn living in the white dorm. I thought you guys made that room so cozy and homey!
Maybe a special santa will bring you a new one for Christmas!

Wow! I'm amazed your Gevailia lasted you 6 years! We've had 3 I think. They all lasted about a year, but they're not bad coffee pots. Our last one was a thermal carafe. Hope you find a good replacement. :)

Awww! I really do feel bad for you... from one coffee drinker to another. That cuppa goodness is something I look forward to every morning. My sincere condolences!

I am constantly amazed at your amazing ability to describe things! I almost feel as if we need to have a memorial or something. I'm not an avid coffee lover, but I sure know some and can relate to your loss. Hopefully you can get a replacement soon! Thanks for the wonderful creative writing!

Awe! Jenny! I'm so sorry! I'm not the huge coffee drinker that my circle of friends have become, but I do enjoy a good dose of the good stuff every once and a while. Looking up, doesn't Gevalia give away coffee makers with a purchase of one pound of coffee or something like that? I know, I know, it's not the same, but I thought maybe, it would help!

I have found replacement parts on line for appliances I've picked up at our local Goodwill to get them to work again. Just an idea.

Hi Jenny,

So sorry to hear about your coffee maker. Any chance of ever repairing it or getting another one like it? I LOVE, LOVE our coffee maker b/c it grinds the beans fresh before brewing. It also has the grounds only option.

I have had issues with breaking my coffee makers in the past but thankfully, I've not destroyed this one:). Keep us posted on what you end up replacing it with.

Oh NO! I would be in dispair too! My Mom ordered one of those too and LOVES it to this very day. I hope you can replace it at the same (free) cost!?

Hey, Jenny.
We're considering doing this very same offer by Gevalia. You would recommend it, I presume?
