Works of God Monday

This weekend at ladies' retreat I was reminded of the importance of being purposeful at seeing God at work in every day. I was thinking back to my own childhood and made sure to thank mom for starting the pattern of identifying God's hand in the little and the big things that happened, and praising Him for them. Mom was great about reminding us that it was God who helped us obey, it was God who gave us a sunny day, etc. I am sure dad did the same thing, but since he was at work a lot of the time, most of my memories are of mom's reminders. This was a great beginning for me to form a habit of praising God for His work.

Then, of course, I remembered Works of God Monday during Monday chapels for each of my years at Northland, and the testimonies we would hear of how God was working in fellow students' lives. Sometimes it would be $3 in the mail right when someone needed laundry money, or an opportunity to share the gospel, or some other way that God had shown that He was alive and working in our lives.

So I was thinking - there are bunches of "theme" days out there on the web, why not start our own virtual bloggy Works of God Monday? I hope this will be a blessing and encouragement to you as you read of how God has been at work in your life and in others' lives this past week! I will be posting on each Monday, but feel free to add posts throughout the week or save it until the next Monday. If you want to link a post that you've written this past week, that would be great!! God is definitely at work - let's encourage one another!

If you've never used Mister Linky before, simply type your name in the top box, or a short description of the work that God has done, and then in the second box, paste the link from your specific "Works of God Monday" post. PLEASE make sure the link is to a specific post on your blog that is a personal testimony of how God has been at work in your life in the past week. Feel free to use the image from the top of this post if you like (or someone can volunteer to make a much nicer one!) Just right click the image and choose "save image as" then upload it into your post. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions, and spread the word to your blogging friends!

Great idea! I've never used Mr. Linky so you'll have to bear with me as I figure it out. Would my blog work as it's invitation only? I'll try to work through the details.

I'm glad that you were so blessed at your retreat:).

I was encouraged by a friend of mine to start a "Works of God" journal now that Matt is in seminary. It has been so neat to record specific works of God and I know it will be an encouragement to look back on years later. . .and hopefully leave an impact on my children as your mom did for you!

I have never used Mr. linky before either so I hope I did this right:)

Thanks for including us in this - I could definitely use the help seeing God's hand in every day things! It's so easy for me to get caught up in mommy things that I more often feel sorry for myself instead of thankful to God for the privilege it is to be a servant mommy. I also think it definitely takes practice and the Holy Spirit's power to even see God working. Looking forward to works of God monday!

(Btw, your logo is just perfect. Very nice - simple and professional. Did you use publisher?)

Rachel, you can link here but as far as I know, only those who are invited readers will be able to see your post. I think it would be great for you to link here anyways! :-)

Nicole, you linked to your blog just fine. I just put in a new link so that you could learn how to link to a specific post you write about the works of God.

Al, I actually used Word and then pasted it to Paint and saved it as a png file. I don't have Publisher at home, so I work the system as much as possible! :-)

Jenny,

I'm stealing your idea of doing my works of God post in google page format. My post is in part about my unbelieving family and not something I want to post on my blog for them to read about. I try to be very careful and sensitive when posting spiritual issues (and never anything about them in particular) on the blog so as not to offend them. Not that I want to water down my spiritual life or misrepresent what I believe (I'm praying God gives me wisdom in that arena) because I'm afraid of what they think but I don't want to post about disputable issues or issues that would in any way detract them from the beauty of the gospel.

Yikes, what an ordeal to create that logo! You must get publisher one of these days. It's my favorite for creating graphics and such. If I weren't so afraid of photoshop I'd recommend that to you too. :) I'm hoping we can get a mac when this computer dies - they're supposed to be way better for desktop publishing tasks, right?

This is a great idea, Jenny. I have to remember to blog though. ha ha I think I will sign up and do my best to be posting. Thanks for encouraging us to see and share the works of God.
