24-hour giveaway

2010 is the year of decluttering for the Muth household. We have clutter in every area of our lives, and it MUST GO. Enough is enough. One day at a time, one garbage bag at a time, and we will be free. *grin* It is painful now, but we will be happy later. At least that is what I'm telling myself. Part of this is the continued elimination of sugary junk food. I realize not everyone has the serious sugar addiction that plagues the solo female member of our household. My name is Jenny, and I'm a sugar-aholic.

So in honor of decluttering, I'm giving away my coupon for one FREE package of golden double stuff Oreos that I got in the mail today. It expires at the end of the month, but I'll be mailing this one out to one reader on Wednesday morning. I'm counting on the fact that someone can responsibly eat Oreos. It's just not me.

So, leave a comment about your current relationship with clutter (I'd love a solution for paper clutter if you've got it) and I'll draw a winner tomorrow evening. I'll even give you until midnight EST - the mail won't come until morning! :-) I will mail this to anyone in the US, since that is typically where coupons for Oreos can be redeemed. Happy munching!

I'm in the beginning-middle stages of clutter war. Several trunkloads of Salvation Army donations have started my quest to lose more stuff!

I think I should probably not eat the Oreos, either....but I wanted you to know that other people are fighting, too. People you've met before, even. :)

Hooray for decluttering! It's a noble thing to try and tackle :) I've found that I have more success with just a little decluttering daily, I'm all about the baby steps. I've continually got a thrift store bag ready to go out in the garage, and I put stuff in it as I go. I try hard not to bring something new into the house, without putting something older in that bag. As for paperwork....I try hard to file it as soon as I deal with it, no stacking! now, cleaning out the file cabinet is a whole other topic ;)

If you can get your hands on a decent scanner, this is one way to reduce paper clutter as you store records electronically. As long as things get backed up to an external hard drive or CD, it's just as secure as paper files (if not more). However, I've gotten too ambitious with this and made a goal of converting ALL paper files, including old school notes, into digital files. Even though Aaron picked up a scanner with a document feeder that can scan both sides at once, this is still an ENORMOUS task. It does feel good to see the shelves grow slowly emptier.

I am trying too to have less of a relationship with clutter! If only to make my hubby happy:) Seriously, if it has been in a box for 6 months and I don't even remember what is in there, do I really need it?
As for paper, I started with the mail, and I deal with it WHEN it comes in--junk in the circular file, bills filed, James pile, etc. or it is out of control in 2 days. I also started trying to write messages and notes that I need in a spiral bound notebook so that I don't have little pieces of paper everywhere! Let me know what you figure out:)

We have a love/hate relationship with clutter. I hate having in around and we have a super old house with zippo for storage space so it's easy for our clutter to become noticeable. Seems like we are continually getting rid of a few things here a few things there but not making much of a dent.

What's hard for both Matt and I is that we both LOVE to acquire more clutter! We pick things up for cheap at thrift stores, yard sales, curbsides not realizing we are creating a vicious cycle.

I'll admit it...I'm a packrat & clutterbug. The piles on the counter drive my husband crazy, so I went to Office Max & bought wall files & attached them to the wall with command velcro tapes. There are three files, one for things to go downstairs, one for misc. items & one for reference items. We're both very pleased with the result. As long as the papers make it into the files...LOL

Goodness! I'm so glad I'm reading this post after the winner has been chosen. I am not only a sugar junkie, but I love blonde oreos. The worst part is, I love blonde oreos topped with peanut butter. I know how to make a bad thing even worse :-)

clutter... well, to get rid of clutter i'd have drop my husband and 8 kids off at the sal army...

my strategies are simple and straightforward - if it's too small, give it away, if i haven't worn it for a season (and am not saving it to take back to niger), give it away, if it is broken, pitch it, if it is not current - pitch or delete.

try and file stuff or put it away immediately, and with my kids, we do this thing they call "pick up, throw away." if they leave it out and i have to pick it up, it goes away - either in the trash can or donated to someone who will appreciate it and i try not to let the fact that it might have been a gift from the grandparents guilt me into keeping it if the child isn't caring for it. i occasionally have to do the same with tim and his things... *grin*
