why buy toys? (and the big boy hair cut)

As I expected when I saved those spools for Aaron in the midst of Christmas sewing, he loves them. More than some of his other toys, which we've relegated to the top shelf of his closet until age makes them more appreciated. For now, I'm more than happy that empty spools of thread provide 40 minutes of entertainment.

This weekend, we are Michael-less. He's heading up to Snow Camp with the youth group, and Aaron and I are staying home. This year's camp is being held almost 3 hours from us! Usually, the camp we rent is a mere 40 minutes. If this were the case, I'd be leaving Aaron with my parents and heading up myself on Friday...but the distance prohibits that this year. Oh well! I'm sure there will be plenty of Snow Camps in my future. We sure are going to miss Michael, though. He'll be gone for 2 nights - the longest we have been apart since our marriage!! As we were saying goodbye, Aaron looked out the door and said, "Daddy? Home?" and that about broke my heart. I'm going to try to distract myself with random fun things. Mom and Dad have school off tomorrow, so we will probably get together too!

Please pray for our teens this weekend - and for the sponsors!!

40 minutes, Wow! Maybe you can patent them as a new toy and become rich!
The hair cut looks nice; it does make him look older!

Aw, poor Jenny. I hope you make it through your Michael-less weekend. I'm sure you'll keep busy and the time will fly by. I'll definitely be praying for the sponsors (and the teens too). Ours is coming up in February--we have it at Camp Calvary--so I'm psyching myself up for it, and looking for warm clothing. :)

What a handsome haircut!!! You did a great job!
Aren't empty spools great? We generate a LOT of empty spools here in my embroidery shop. I save them for my grandkids, who have played with them since they were littler than Aaron - and still (at ages 9, 10, 12) use their imagination to make them become lots of things (handles for swords, lightsabers, bases for dolls, etc.) I guess that we are just a family of 'easily amused' people :)

Aunt Rosemary - I prefer to think of it as "highly imaginative" :-) I remember long hours playing with mom's button box and imagining what sort of clothing the buttons came from - I guess "easily amused" covers it too! Part of it I am sure came from not having a TV and/or video games to fall back on!!

Gotta love cheap easy toys! Chloe can play forever in plain ole cardboard boxes! Hang in there this weekend! Hope you can do some fun things to make the time go by quickly!

jenny, Aaron looks all grown up. What a cute fellow you and Micheal have. I'm sure Aaron and you will look forward to Michael's return. My kids played with plastic lids of various sizes as well as sewing spools.Later on it was hours in the sandbox and a plastic bucket and sandbox, a tire swing in a tree, and cardboard boxes. Their favorite was old clothes for dress up from the Goodwill. We actually still have them.

Great work on the haircut! Love the toys too! Hope you have a good time with your parents today and this weekend! We'll be praying for those teens and for Michael! Oh - btw - finally got our video in the mail! So sorry it has taken us eternity to whip it up for you guys! I finally put it on my ever-binding "to do" list for Don and I yesterday, since Don had the day off. =) (it had been moved from one "to - do" list to the next with always an excuse as to why it wasn't getting done! Err! Thanks again for your patience and sorry we were negligent in that area!

His haircut looks great! Good job!
He looks as if he's loving those spools. It's the little things in life. :)

You are such a great mom! It really doesn't take much to amuse our little munchkins does it?
Aaron's haircut looks fantastic! You did a super job getting it to look so nice. Were you perspiring when you finished? I would have been sooo nervous!
I'll be praying for you as you are without your hubby this weekend. Doesn't it give you tons of respect for the military wives out there?
