what to do, what to do?

So I've been keeping half an eye on the political race, and I have to admit, I am still one of the "undecided voters" spoken of so frequently in the news. Although, no one has contacted me on that, so I guess I'm technically one of the unknown undecideds rather than one who is frequently spoken of.

After seeing the results of the Iowa caucuses, I realized for the first time that this is going to be interesting. Really interesting. I'm so glad that God is the one who puts leaders into position. I'm so glad He allows us to play a part in our government.

So, any thoughts on voting? What are the major issues for you? (you don't have to state your position - we don't want a war here) but is there a deal breaker issue for you? Or do you just weigh the candidates on their overall appeal, on how many issues you agree with? Or, do you wait it out and see who looks like they have a chance at winning and then throw your vote in with the one whose views line up the most with yours?

Please tell me you will be voting.

Yes, we'll be voting!! NH's primary is only 4 days away. We were back and forth between a couple of candidates for a while, but we have it narrowed down now and have settled on a candidate. I don't know if there is a "deal breaker or maker" for me . . . only I will not vote for someone who is not pro-life. I guess that's just very important for me. In the primary, it doesn't matter so much to me if "my" candidate looks like they have a chance at winning--I just vote for who impresses me the most, and whose views and values line up closest with mine.

I hope to post more about my thoughts on the primary on my blog in the next few days. I too am very thankful we have the opportunity to vote!!

Yes - We will be voting! My husband is in to politics big-time and he keeps me up to date with the happenings.

Our biggest issue is the pro-life/pro-choice stand. We just could not vote for anyone who was pro-choice! I cannot even discuss the issue without becoming fired up so I'll stop now:).

I'll leave it at that:). I'm not sure who I will vote for as of yet. Time will tell.

For those considering candidates based on their pro-life/pro-choice stand, here is good comparison from Right to Life. http://www.rtl.org/html/pdf/Presidentialcandidatescomparison.pdf
Good reading...

We are planning on voting, though I haven't narrowed it down yet. I have 3 candidates I am interested in right now, but need to learn more about each.

I really don't have any make or break issues, though abortion is important to me, it is not one that would totally cause me not to vote for that person. Though it would be a very hard decision to vote for a pro-choice candidate.

Okay, I'm not a regular reader of your blog, but when Karis said you had a political post, I wanted to read it.

I've never been interested in politics much at all until I saw a clip of Huckabee answering a question about evolution in one of the debates. Since then I've done a lot of reading about him and, while I'll admit he's not "the perfect candidate," I think he best represents my conservative Christian views (probably since he comes from a similar background - he was a Southern Baptist pastor in Arkansas). Additionally, Huckabee seems the least like a politician. When I listen to him speak, I get the idea that he actually believes what he says and isn't just saying what he thinks people want to hear.

So I guess for me I look for someone who is conservative on issues (such as abortion), is genuine, and most closely represents my beliefs.

We will definitely be voting. The main deal breaker issue for me is if the candidate is not pro-life.

I do appreciate your encouragement to all of us not only to vote, but to make sure it's an informed vote. That's the part I need to work harder at.
