Quotable Luther

I'm reading Passionate Housewives Desperate for God, a Christmas gift from my parents. This morning, chapter 3 began with this from Martin Luther:

"What you do in your house is worth as much as if you did it up in heaven for our Lord God. We should accustom ourselves to think of our position and work as sacred and well-pleasing to God, not on account of the position and work, but on account of the word and faith from which the obedience and the work flow."

Anyone else need that reminder? It is so easy to get caught up in the daily routine, to be weighed down with guilt over what is not accomplished and what schedule is not kept, rather than rejoicing in God's calling and His view of my work.

Whatever I can accomplish in one day, may I do it "as unto the Lord."

Boy, especially this time of year (gloomy, cold days..hard to get motivated to do ANYTHING), I needed that reminder...'as unto the Lord'! Thanks for mentioning the book. It looks like that one would be a good gift for my daughter-in-law Shannon. She worked for a long time, but is just finishing her degree, then is planning on being a stay-at-home wife and hoping to be stay-at-home mom.

I thought maybe you wrote that just for me. That sounds like a good book, I'll have to check it out!

I did need that reminder. The meal prep, laundry, and toilet scrubbing won't seem nearly as arduous tonight. :)

Whatever you do, Do your work heartily; as for the Lord rather than for men... It is the Lord Christ whom you serve. Colossians 3:23-24 Is a verse I have on the front of my planner. To remind me of why I get up in the morning. This sounds like a good book. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for sharing, Jenny. I too am interested in this book. I had not heard of it before, but I clicked on the link and was impressed at what I read. May all of life be about God and His glory!
