Tell me what you think of internet dating, or finding your spouse online.

To each his own...

We have a great God who can lead the two people He wants together using any method He should so choose.

I do think there are some pitfalls to be careful of, but every relationship has those. Internet dating can make it easier to make good decisions about physical contact, but can make it harder sometimes to know the person as well as you think you know the person.

Bottom line - I didn't find my husband that way, but I don't think someone who did has any less of a relationship than I do.

My sister's trying it out & found (from what she tells me :) a great Christian guy. Since he lives out of state, my parents had her call his pastor as a "reference" to make sure he was what he said he was. Everything turned out good, and they're "dating" by phone & e-mail. When forced to communicate that way, you've got to be creative. They each bought a book with a thousand questions to get to know someone. I thought that was cute.
Like Sandra said, God can lead 2 people together this way just as He can on a college campus. Just make sure you have safeguards in place.

Interesting question, Jenny! I think internet dating ought to be approached with extreme caution--maybe with the counsel and accountability of a godly, trustworthy friend. But I think that should be true of all dating, and I wouldn't rule internet dating out completely as an option. As Pam pointed out, there may be an advantage to the forced focus on communication and de-emphasis on the physical.

I've heard success stories, but I don't know any personally. I HAVE seen some people make very foolish decisions while internet dating. But to be fair, I'm not sure those same people wouldn't have also made foolish decisions in physical dating--just different ones.

Is that answer wishy washy enough for you? ;)

BTW, Jenny. I tried to call you back yesterday but the line was busy. The event in question is in the past. I'll try to call you again some time this weekend if that's a good time for you. I'm not able to view my personal email from work any longer, so sadly, I have to say goodbye to our occasional chats. :(

Well, I'm an internet dating success story :-) Vince and I met online. It was a whirlwind romance and from the time we "met" until the time we got married was 3 months. Did people think we were crazy - you betcha! Do we think we were crazy at the time - of course! Would we change anything? Never! God led us together in such a way that one can never even imagine! Yes, you have to be careful, and there are crazies out there everywhere, but God knows. We've been married a little over 3 1/2 years, have a baby on the way due this summer, and Vince is currently in seminary preparing for ministry. Internet dating/relationships/marriage doesn't always work for everyone. But in my case, I'm thankful that it did and now I'm convinced my family loves my husband more than they do me! ha!

Is Arron already using a keyboard? Just tell him he's too young to date. That's my advice!

I think it's a good way to find a guy w/ the same interests but you have to be very cautious - alot of sinners out there just like us who like to lie - BUT - at the same time a good way too - sooo I'd do if there wasn't other "options" :) (oh and if I wasn't married!! hehehehe)

Well, I found out the Kings, Sarah and Winston, met that way. :-) You know that is also how Eva Motter met John, don't you? Kris is performing their ceremony for them in June, and is excited to see how God brought them together and what He is doing in thier lives. We've kind of watched the relationship evolve, had him stay with us on more than one occasion, and been impressed. That's our realm of contact with internet dating. I agree with some of your other comments here, that people are people and their hearts will be the same in person or on-line. How many people do I know from school at Bethany or BJU who thought they knew the person they were marrying and are already divorced? Sad, but true. I think the meeting on-line is one thing, but to have a real relationship develop, extra effort must be put into visits, meeting family and friends, etc. like John and Eva have done.
