8mm moments

Last night, Michael & I went over to mom & dad's to eat pie and celebrate the 55th birthday of a Certain Grandpa-To-Be. We had found an old 8mm film under a cupboard in our new house, and were infinitesimally curious to see what it contained.

Michael was surprised and delighted to find out that there were reels of film with footage of our family, and more notably, me as a baby. I didn't remember seeing this particular footage of me before, and I must say, after getting used to viewing photos of your childhood, it is strange to see yourself in motion as a tiny baby. For those who grew up with the luxury of video cameras, well, enjoy it. But rest assured, you will never truly value the feeling that comes from being 26 and, for the first time, watching yourself at 6 pounds and a few days old getting your first bath.

It probably hit home a little more since I'm now expecting our first little person. I was amazed to see that just like any other days-old baby, I couldn't hold my own head up, couldn't care for myself, and yet...there I was, all of me and my personality, all of what was to be and is to be now in that little tiny helpless body. AMAZING!

It was great to watch mom and dad interacting with little me - despite the lack of sound and the quality of the footage, one thing was VERY evident: they loved me. I am very thankful for such great parents that worked so hard to rear me to love & serve God, and who have been faithful examples of godliness and true servanthood! (it's also nice to know that they made sure I was bathed regularly)

Awe! This is such a sweet post, Jenny. How great to find that film! My dad has ALWAYS been a video guy, but he started out with 8mm, and one of our favorite things to do is get out the projector and screen and watch. It's so special and so much better than these new-fangled perfect resolution videos we have today!

I bet that was alot of fun to see. We don't have any vidoes of us when we were kids; just old fashioned pictures! I am sure Michael enjoyed seeing you as a baby! It will be fun to compare your baby to what you and Michael looked like when you were babies...

Wow, how cool!!!! What a neat experience to see yourself as a baby! If you think you appreciate your parents now - just wait until you start doing this parenting thing yourself. I am constantly amazed at the love, patience, and sacrifice my mom exhibited in raising me and my sister.

Do you still bathe regularly? :)

That's so great that your parents preserved those memories (and that you actually FOUND them. :) I haven't done much video of Esther, but need to. I only think of taking pics of us for our blog - so pathetic. Stephen used to be the pic-taker, and now I"ve taken up the baton! :)

After jenny & Michael left that night, I watched most of the rest of the stash--the only good ones are of people, yet so much was of scenery, buildings, places and other such trivia. It is the people that count--especially those that tipically hide when a camera comes out. and yes--it IS a miracle we found those old films!!

Jenny,
my aunt has some of my brother and i and my cousing. They are hilarious. I mean, the color and the crackling, and no sound. We were toddlers when they took the footage so we are running around the backyard with a hose chasing each other. Anyways, thanks for the fun reminder. ps. it's really funny to watch them in rewind!
