points of interest

We are back from our 10 day road trip adventure. I have uploaded our pictures to Facebook, but if you do not have access to that, you can still see pictures of our trip! Click here and here. To see pictures from Aaron & Julia's beautiful wedding, click here.

Before leaving on this adventure, we made a quick stop at the library so I could pick up a few books I'd been trying to find time to read. Of course, the books I was looking for were both checked out, so I quickly scanned the parenting section for a title of interest. I found the book pictured here, which turned out to be a fascinating find. I was thinking I had awhile before potty training is to begin, but this book had some interesting, low pressure ideas about introducing the potty as part of the routine early on in life. It is a very interesting point of view to be sure. I'll let you know how it all, er...pans out (heh heh heh)

PRAISE GOD for a wonderful vacation. The day before the wedding was, for me, one of Alexandric proportions, but God is always good and we managed to muddle through forgotten food, diapers, wipes and a flat tire on the way to rehearsal dinner. God's hand was gracious and His working evident. The wedding was a huge blessing and success, Aaron traveled like a trooper most of the time, and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and the break from the routine. Thanks for all the prayers! After about 2300 miles, We are definitely glad to be back home.

It was good to see you and finally meet Aaron! I'm sure now you'll be busy trying to catch up with laundry and everything else that goes with being gone for 10 days.

Thanks for the book recommendation- I"ll have to check it out.

I'm curious to know your take on the infant potty-training book. I know a few ladies who've done this so I can offer their experiential take to the book's ideas. Interesting . . .

Sounds like a whirlwind of a trip! But what fun times together as a family! I'll bet you made loads of wonderful memories together. Can't wait to check out your facebook pix of the adventure! How much total driving did you do?

One way that I potty trained my child was I did it in three days I know sounds crazy but befor he was 2 I had him trained. this is what you do. you pick three days to do and and stayed focus on it. On the first day when they get up set them on the potty and put them in underware after they go give them a little bit of juice or water or milk then in a 1/2hr put them back on then give them a little more to drink then in a 1/2 hr put them back on. Do this until about 3pm then put them back in a pull up then repet on day 2 until 3pm and if all works out on day 3 you should have them trained but be read to wash some clothes also for nap do not put them in a pull up leave the underware on but put the pull up over the underware. when I would do it at nap I would lay him down around 12:15 and wake him up at 2:00 and then put him back to bed. Like I said sounds crazy but it does work I have had alot of friends do this and it really works hope this helps.

always enjoy checking in on your blog- aaron's a cutie.

re potty training - i've tried several different ways, but my favorite (and what i've used with the last three) sounds like it might be similar to the book (which i've not read).

i actually start from birth - when i know baby is going to go (like right after nursing) i put them on the potty. they learn quickly and it is fun and painless. from there i proceed just as i would any other skill they are learning, encouraging when they do it right and having them help clean the mess (throwing diapers away....) when they don't. i can take no credit for beginning this. it was my african friends who don't use diapers that taught me. but it is much less stress and more natural for me as i like approaching it more like i would approach teaching a child how to eat with a fork and spoon. but then again, i finaly have figured out after 7 kids that i'm an attachment parenting style... little slow on the uptake here.

elsie rarely has dirty diapers now and hasn't since she was 7-8 months old, unless she is sick.

my two cents, for what it is worth- probably not even two cents.

I'm glad you had such a great trip and that Aaron traveled well for you. Sounds like the rehersal day was quite a day. The pictures are great.

Welcome back! Thank you for the pictures of the wedding! What a beautiful bride and it looked like a beautiful wedding too! As I told Shannon, Julia was my roommate my last year of college and haven't kept up with her like I had hoped. She is the sweetest girl ever!

Looks like you had a great time in DC! We were actually able to go up and visit there last year and absolutely loved it and can't wait to go back! Glad you made it home safely and with at least most of your sanity still intact!

I am not sure who anonymous is up above, but I had a friend potty train her twin boys in 1 day. She said it was a long day, but it was great to be able to get it over with so quickly. There is a book out that explains the system of training in 1 day, but I am not sure of the title. Anyway, I will look forward to hearing your advice and success!!

Hooray, hooray, you are back! Now, if we could just find some time to get together. . . .Oh, and it would help if we stayed in the same state for a little while, huh? Sorry, it's my fault now. I can hardly wait to see my family though!!! :-)
