A smiling boy and Missionary Nature Stories

Last Wednesday, Aaron started smiling in response to stimuli. He smiled for the first time at his grandma, which about sent her through the ceiling with joy. There's no one who can elicit smiles better than grandma! Sorry the picture is fuzzy...

Remember in elementary school when we'd sit on the edge of our seats while the visiting missionary regaled us with stories of the 8' snake he killed in his bathtub or the tarantulas and scorpions they'd find in their shoes?

I've got news: You don't have to be a missionary to have scary nature stories. You don't even have to live in a foreign country.

This morning there was a 2 1/2" spider in my bathroom. It was a very VERY scary spider. His body was about 1 1/2" long and the legs were at least that long. I'm usually ok with killing spiders by stepping on them (as long as I'm not wearing flip flops or other open toed footwear) But this spider was an unbelievably huge one. My fearless husband trapped it under a glass after chasing it around for a few seconds. Then we sprayed it with spider killing spray. It would have splattered if we squashed it, it was so big.

Seriously, I've never seen a bigger spider in Michigan. It's still on my bathroom floor, under that glass. I hope it's dead. I wouldn't let Michael pick up the glass for fear the spider killing spray wasn't strong enough to do him in.

Wow, what an adorable smile your little man has! I am sure that must be fun to see.

YIKES!! SPIDER!! I don't think I would have handled it that well. Hopefully the spider spray killed it completely. Hopefully that was a one time ordeal!

AUGH!!!!!!!!!!! I HATE spiders, and good thing that spider wasn't in my bathroom! I probably would have to move. I did see a HUGE spider - possibly that size - run around a few times in the garage when I was cleaing in a few weeks ago. But, I never really got a good look at it.

My procedure for killing spiders is to throw a large book on it and wait till Chris comes home to get it. I know, I'm pathetic. Pretty soon Luke will be big enough to kill them for me though.

Ughh! I think it goes with the territory of being a home-owner. We have tons of spiders, some of them pretty big, but none of them as big as you have described. Try as we may, we cannot keep up on all the spiderwebs that spring up in the least expected places.

On a happier note, your little one has the most adorable smile! Miss you, and wish I could meet little Aaron in person!

Spider killing spray? Wow, you certainly were prepared! I'm with everyone's caps-locked comments on the ickiness of spiders . . . something about those hairy spiny legs and crazy eyes.

GREAT SMILE Aaron! That's one huge grin he's got! Hopefully his smile speaks of an easy going happy temperment.

What a little cutie pie!! It's so much fun when they start smiling for real. :)

We have some of those big ol' spiders in our area too--not dangerous, but definitely scary!! Hope that you won't see any more in your house! :)

What an adorable little man you have!! How precious is that?! As for the spiders, Vince is more scared of them than I, so I have to be the brave one!! Such is life!!
