I choose to memorize from the KJV but as far as my Bible reading goes, I prefer the NIV or the NKJV with the John MacArthur commentary.Rachelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15786503854290478861noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23600935.post-44225353665280457292007-10-25T09:54:00.000-05:002007-10-25T09:54:00.000-05:00As a child (in the "olden days" 1956-1961), my Dad...As a child (in the "olden days" 1956-1961), my Dad, our pastor's wife, Mrs. Suk, and my wonderful Sunday School teachers at Calvary Baptist Church taught me verses from the King James Version. I enjoy reading the other translations, but I have the KJV words memorized and all other translations just don't sound like the 'Bible'. I guess that I am just 'old-fashioned'.<BR/>Aunt RosemaryRosemaryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05855131222804620687noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23600935.post-23847866862361533742007-10-25T08:16:00.000-05:002007-10-25T08:16:00.000-05:00I also voted KJV because of my familiarity with it...I also voted KJV because of my familiarity with it. However, recently, I started using the ESV in parallel with the KJV. I like how it reads, and I imagine at some point that I may make the switch, but I currently don't own an ESV (I've been reading it online) so I can't really vote for a translation I don't own, right? :)ruthhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12153919574092594533noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23600935.post-91626530892290477132007-10-25T06:26:00.000-05:002007-10-25T06:26:00.000-05:00My vote was based upon ready availability of helps...My vote was based upon ready availability of helps--concordance, Schofield notes, etc., and my years of use of the KJV. My memory tells me there is a verse with a particular word in it, so with a concordance I can find what i am looking for. I like the NKJV very much, and i intend to read through the Bible using the ESV starting in Jan. so I may change my opinions. However, I will probably always prefer the KJV for stusy based on my familiarity.
